The Untold Story Of Flt. Lt. Chow Ongpee Maunglang
Chow Mongsengwin Maunglang
Indulging a child and taking me to school in his full Air Force uniform is how I remember my brother Chow Ongpee Maunglang. I was proud of him being in the Indian Air Force and wanted to show him off in my school and so had made the demand. Although he was on a holiday and he did not have to, he had fulfilled my wish. Meat products and development of processed meat sector
Likha Yaju
Sustained livestock production to provide livelihood and ensure food and nutrition to large population is dependent on efficient utilisation of livestock products. Processing meat to value added products contribute to sustained demand for meat and efficient marketing to earn reasonable returns for farmers. There are about 170 processed meat units, producing a number of meat products mostly as small scale units and licensed under Meat Food Products Order, 1973.
India produces about 6.27 million tonnes of meat from different animals particularly buffaloes, sheep and goat are used. The organised development of processed meat sector is important to realize full benefits from meat animal and contribute for sustained meat production.
Also, it is necessary to produce quality value added meat products to meet the requirements
in post WTO period for effectively facing global competition both to check large
scale imports to detriment of domestic sector and to promote exports. Meat is marketed
in the country in various forms and conveniences to suit the consumer’s choice. The
use of meat and eggs on development of convenience products is emphasized due to
better nutrient contents like high quality protein, vitamins, minerals, essential
amino acids, fatty acids and lower calorie content. Today’s consumers are no longer
satisfied with the traditional meat products. Rather they prefer more nutrients and
convenient ready to eat meat products. These convenient items must be economical
and cost-
Traditionally value can be added by packaging of meat product in appealing material,
these packaging material help to extend the shelf life, then by broker and retailer
by building a wide business and retailing chain. But now increasing demand of meat
products specially more convenient, ready to cook, ready to eat and more nutritious.
So the strong need arise for value addition in other sense of nutritional value and
healthiness like low-
Chicken sticks, chicken patties, burger, kabab, nuggets, roll, chicken samosa, canned
chicken and other snacks type products are popular in local market. But now a day’s
big player of market are launching their products mainly ready to eat and ready to
cook type. In fast food or snacks type meat products burger, patties, puff, sticks
and meat pizza are also available through franchisee chain of multinational companies
like MacDonald’s and Pizza-
In last decade the processing scenario has changed and there are more companies in the both segment (Indian and Overseas) than before. Some companies and their brands also disappeared during this time as they can’t match the market trends and strategies. The established meat marketing systems are still largely based on early morning slaughter and sale of meat the same day. Very little initiatives have been taken in the development of meat product industry. Meat processing sector, particularly value added poultry segments needs to be vigorously promoted for boosting production by increasing the domestic consumption of processed products and also for promoting their export. Family dynamics, rising income, increasing exposure to various mass media, changing food habits with preference for fast foods and heavily industrialization and urbanization will greatly enhance the demand for fresh or frozen and nutritionally superior value added products. Policy makers, meat producer cum processor, food processor, food technologist etc have to work together to transform this sector into a more dynamic and vibrant enterprise.

Dear Editor
The dwindling economy of Arunachal Pradesh is not a new chapter in the eyes of Finance Ministry at Delhi. The declining credit rating of the state is compounded by very few working days due to frequent bandh culture inherited from our neighbouring state. Even after more than two decades of exhaustive economic policies, we stand nowhere. To me it’s like, cruel fate has put us to rest. The mist of poverty and being branded as low economic state is still hovering round the corner. And you really can't foretell how far we are going to stretch the magic of poverty. Despite the long lasting support from the centre, we are not able to come to concrete economic policies. No investors have come up to share their rich dividends. So far we are constantly burdened with unpleasant task of searching for good economic policies. What we need most of all is strong and stable economy and taxation policies, so that we can lure investors. Right to protest is our fundamental right. But if it's against the interest of our state, the rights should be given red signal then and there. Industrial revolution in our state is far to believe achievement, and I am sure that's it not going to happen in another decade or two. So far, interested and probable companies have bitten the dust and have moved themselves out from the state after signing MOU’s. Reason being simple, every self styled organisations starts swindling money from them. This might not be fact but I, am sure there is something fishy that is creating unfavourable environment. Now that , FM has ascertained to cut down central fund to northeast states, I think it's time to pull up socks and generate own revenues. The fast changing moves and sequences of events in parliament cannot be ignored. The new government at Delhi means real business and this time they mean it. We have to make very interesting calculations to win their heart, otherwise we are going to have very tough time. Time has come to make up for the lost time in the remaining days before we come to a complete halt.

Conduct TET exam
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to appeal to the govt of Arunachal Pradesh, specially the Department of Elementary Education to conduct Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) exam soon. The unemployed candidates who are having requisite qualification such as D.El.Ed or B.Ed are waiting for the conduction of the exam at the earliest.
Arunachal Pradesh is one of the few states to conduct TET Exam once a year while most states in the country conduct it twice a year.
The state should make it mandatory to have the exam once a year so that everyone can take advantage of it.
It is understood that the Education Department has adopted the APTET from CTET exam but method of conducting the exam is quite different in our state.
Lastly, I appeal to the Education minister to interfere in order to ensure conduction of TET Exam 2014 as it is almost going to be one year since the last exam was conducted.
Yours,
Hendo Taipodia
